Surrogacy is a method of assisted reproduction in which a woman carries a pregnancy within her uterus on behalf of another couple.
The couple undergo IVF (In vitro Fertilization) procedure in which their eggs and sperms are taken to create an embryo. This embryo is then implanted in the womb or uterus of the surrogate lady. After the baby is born, the surrogate hands over the custody of the baby to the intended parents.
Surrogacy is usually advised in cases where the
woman is unable to carry a pregnancy because of medical problems with her uterus.
woman had a hysterectomy to remove her uterus.
woman has a health condition that makes pregnancy risky for her.
